Networking is really the way or maybe the ONLY way to get a good job! I work for one of the larger financial companies and I would say, 80% of the people who are offered jobs there know someone else who is already working for the company or have family members who work for the company.

Try a government job as that is always a good start, It may require that you relocate. It kind of like the way attorneys usually start;be a prosecutor for government then learn the ends and outs plus network for the future.

I would do the gov thing after a few yrs of experience in 'the real world'. Gov can be a good place to camp-out for a career, but often is pretty restrictive for variety in the early learning years, + it may 'ruin' you for a competitive job. The greatest fear of entering gov, military, or a large company directly out of school, is that you will be inclined to become 'entrenched' way too soon, & when you MAY be best off in another career path. You want to avoid looking back after 20 yr career the the 'woulda, coulda, shoulda'. This varies with career objectives and family / finance needs, and for each situation. Works great for many, your mileage may vary.

I would try to place myself in a company (or gov) that will pay for an advanced degree AFTER about 5 -6 yrs gaining a variety of experiences.

an alternative is to go to gov for a short stint, then get out, maybe come back later.

IRS is hiring
