Outsourcing Poll
Note: Choose the best option but you can post a reply if there is more than one answer. I am unable to change/edit that part, I guess.
This is my first time doing a poll and outsourcing is a concern of mine. I see many good jobs leaving the United States and am feeling frustrated after dealing with 2 companies over the past week (Equifax - which concerned a privacy issue; not resolved and A T & T which took 2 days and 4 hours worth of time plus a visit to the home).
In my case, I would have gladly paid a fee to get it resolved within the United States. The privacy concern with Equifax was of great concern to my client.
I also listened to Suze Orman last night and saw a woman on there who had worked as a title agent. Her job had been outsourced to India. She has been unemployed for 8 months.
I know the bottom line is important, of course, but the cost to us as a country seems to be far greater.

Bottom line short term or bottom line long term? Our grossly overcompensated senior managers in the country get their bonuses based on short term measurement. They don't give a damn what the long term effects of outsourcing are. They do not care if they destroy the middle class in the US.
I'm building some software for a Fortune 100 company right now. In general, management is shockingly poor.
They have outsouced the entire IT department that I am trying to work with to India. I like East Indians - very nice people. But not a single member of the team can speak in anything other than very broken English. They are also - just plain incompentent. They don't know what they are doing. At all. I have billed vast numbers of extra hours trying to work with this team. But some bean counter is just certain he/she is saving the company money.

I did vote in your poll. I voted as secure job.
I have had 2 positions where my jobs were or the people I was working for, their jobs were outsourced.
One was customer service in a call center - outsourced to India.
The other was as a vocational services coordinator for mentally challenged adults. The retarded citizens manual assembly jobs were outsourced to China. The company they worked for lost the contract. The completed job ( from raw stock to packaging) cost the company $1.59 per item. The Chinese company that won the job cost the company .25 cents per item. The items sold in a local hardware store $12.99. More corporate greed.
I am happy to report that my current job is secure unless I get taken overseas.

Those jobs and projects which get outsourced don't represent any interest or threat to me.

So other people's job loss is really no concern of yours? I don't know but I was brought up to have compassion, empathy and sympathy for others. I guess you have other ideas about people.

I as well. However, look at the sorts of people we're allowing to migrate here these days -- does anybody think these people care what they do to this country after they've harvested all they can from it? They can simply move back to the nation they came from, money in hand, and retire nicely in India, China, etc.
