News, Best Buy cuts wages, jobs in its stores.
RICHFIELD, Minn. (AP) - Thousands of Best Buy store employees will see pay cuts and others will lose their jobs as the consumer electronics chain reorganizes.
Best Buy Co. Inc. would not disclose the number of people affected. A spokesman said the move will put more sales people in front of customers. Many store managers and senior-level sales people will go to jobs where they'll interact more directly with shoppers.

I can see this happening at many retailers. Salesfolk may be better served learning the installation side of things. Internet shopping is only gaining in popularity, more stores will get pinched.

And here I thought they were all getting min-wage already!
More sales people in front of customers? Best buy, do you think you can teach them a bit before you do that?

Hello John1960...have not talked to you in a while.
I was in the Grocery field decades ago in Calif. and recall one chain that had their store mgrs who were easily identifiable at a small counter where he could always answer customers questions/problems...observe the cashiers and any need to open a extra register when needed. His job was public relations and it worked real well. He never had to leave the front as the 2nd man (ass't mgr) took care of things in the rest of the store. They did very well with a excellent reputation and of course sold out to another chain which revamped things and you know the rest of the story.
Different subject and not Best Buy related...still on a Retail chain level that could have done a lot better. Enter the store and a person has no idea who is who and what person has the deciding answer to a problem.

Back when Circuit City was having their difficulties and shortly afterwards closed down, I was told that the electronics industry manufacturers expected that a weak Best Buy was on the same path. The forecasted time frame was one year after CC closed. It appears my industry sources may be correct, Best Buy is apparently not picking up the market sales that CC had.

Its more to do with what they sell IMO. Many items that people are not replcing until they have to and othesr they are forgoing in this economy because they sell mostly luxury goods.
