Auto Industry to get a boost!
Could the doom and gloom be over?
Quote:
CHATTANOOGA — Volkswagen's new assembly plant at Chattanooga is taking shape, and project construction manager Thilo Brochaus (Tee'-lo Brock'-house) said the early phase of construction is ahead of schedule.
Brochaus led reporters on a tour of the sprawling site Tuesday at Enterprise South Industrial Park near Interstate 75. Volkswagen executives will hold a ceremony May 14 to mark construction.
More than 30 towering columns for the plant's paint shop that will be more than 100 feet tall are already in the ground. So far, there are about 120 construction workers among about 400 personnel who have safety clearance at the site.
The $1 billion VW plant is expected to have 2,000 employees and start production of a new midsize sedan in early 2011.

How does one company, which is headquartered in Germany, help the auto industry. Many foreign car companies, BMW, Lexus, are all doing fine..... Probably because their customers dont have hourly jobs and are somewhat safe from layoffs

Some boost. They bring in their components and the machinery to assemble their cars in to the U.S. and they don't get hit with any import taxes, and may even receive a tax deferment. Not a good deal at all.
