Default Should States Compete For the Production of This GM Car?

Is it wrong to think you shouldn't give incentives to get the production of this GM car in your state? What if nobody wants the little car? Who would be left holding the money bag? Help me understand why it would be good for any state to sweeten the pot so GM makes the car in their state? Wouldn't it cost the state a bundle if they give tax incentives and then car goes belly up or am I missing something and the states have nothing to lose?

GM officials had no comment about whether they asked for cash.

But at an impromptu news conference, Bredesen said, "They don't care about tax credits and those other kinds of things. ... It certainly was a new look for me at how they're approaching this thing, which is absolutely, 'Tell me how big of a check you're going to write.' "

i guess government corruption is going to be out in the open now.......

M guess is that they really don't have alot of states that are willig to put up cash in any GM project with the problems GM is having or it would be more of a competition amoung states.
