Default Why is a "Fair Profit" no longer good enough?

In the olden days, so the legend goes, companies were happy with a fair profit.

Today, it seems like a company isnt happy unless they can Mr Krab you (for the unspongebob initiated, it means sucking every penny outta you!).

I recall reading somewhere that is actually illegal for a publicly traded company not to do everything they can to suck every cent from you.

Is this true? And if it is, is this really how we want it?

Of course that's not true. Public companies have a duty to provide a return to their shareholders, but that's a far cry from saying that those companies are required by law to suck consumers dry. In fact, trying to do so usually ends up destroying a company.

I don't think the financial goals of a business are any different today than they were 20+ years ago. A company is going to sell a good or service for maximum profitability while operating as efficiently as possible.

Yeah, guys like JP Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, John Jacob Astor, Henry Clay Frick, the Rockerfellers and the Vanderbilts were all happy with a modest, fair profit, right? What socialist college economics professor put that nonsense in your head?

nimmysnv is on a distinguished road
Hi,

According to me, it is like, in the past decade the people were very happy and with what they are getting with respect in making bigger profit and today is like evry single person wants to have good source of revenue more and more better than other like it become a competition amongst several companies and they are just fighting for it.

So, as far as fair profit concerns than there are some companies that are earning fair profit but there are very less companies that are generating and getting fair profit otherwise there is no source for fair profit.

Thanks!!

Many libs today are trying to vilify companies that make a profit. Profit is the reason companies exist and are able to provide jobs.

Obama and socialist agenda says profit is evil. (Unless you give it all to them)
