Pinellas woman's Verizon fight shows why PINs should be shared - St. Petersburg Times

It should go without saying, but the last thing a grieving daughter should have to do is battle the phone company over disconnecting her deceased father's service.
Some things, unfortunately, still have to be said.
Cynthia Lacy of Treasure Island could hardly believe a customer service representative at Verizon refused to disconnect her father's telephone service until after she contacted the Consumer's Edge.

**********************************
The funny part about it...is the person who did this, didn't get fired.
Probably got coached to demand a sample of the grave dirt, hah.
Vultures. #$&Q#(&# vultures, man. They laughed. That's the kicker.

Laugh at the woman who just lost her father. I guess they coached them not to laugh at grieving people?

More I think about this, the madder I get.

That's typical of the horrible customer service from that horrible company. I hope they enjoy the big fat bill I stuck them with. A bill for a service they never provided me and refused to remove it and stop billing me. I know the frustration trying to deal with Verizon.

Verizon sucks and I have hated it for a long time now. Only reason I actually use Verizon is because they're the only company that has decent phone service where I live.

Why even bother with consumers edge? A three sentence letter would have been enough.

Dear verizon,

Consumer Name passed away on DATE and will no longer be needing your services on ACCOUNT#. Please disconnect service effective DATE. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Grieving offspring.

What would they expect, payment from the grave? I wouldn't even bother responding to them after that.

Verizon has an odd policy that only the person who owns the account can make changes to it. A friend went round and round with them when I was sick and not up to talking to anyone.
