Hey. So are all of those areas safe for a single person to rent ? Are there nice little towns outside of calgary to rent a place with a yard?

Do you know what I need to do to bring a horse/dog over the boarder?
I plan to drive up late september with a small uhaul. Does anyone know about the drive from California? Are there rules about bringing my stuff over? I have a current passport so should be ok right? Is establishing residency in Alberta difficult?

Calgarian here.
The singles scene is okay, lots of oil types, lots of outdoorsey type, atheltic etc. Shouldn't be too hard to find a date imo.
As for the rural type areas, Think either Okotoks, Airdrie, or Cochrane. Of course, seeing as these are on opposite corners of the city, where you work might dictate where you live.
My money would be on Okotoks though. Have lots of single lady friends that have no trouble finding quality - both in men and in life. Great little town, nice and quiet.
Great jobs here are easy to come by, but you might have trouble specifically getting a teaching position right away. Wanna work in oil?
The Alberta economy is the economic engine in Canada right now, and people are even moving from GTA. only a 5% GST, no provincial sales tax, lowest income tax, low property tax etc.
Heard a joke about it earlier today actually. Ontario is like a marriage- the o's get smaller, but the debt gets higher. I would personally avoid Ontario for a comparable quality of life, but that's just me.
Of course i'm biased because I live here, but if you're a horse gal, you'll fall in love. Remember, mountains...mountains...mountains!
Oh, check out www.rentfaster.ca for rental listings. lots of decent properties.

Family is hard to be away from.
Having said that, the best thing would be to try googling specific forums(teachers and equestrians) for more specific answers to your employment questions.
I do know that the economy is red hot right now - most of it is in oil, yeah, but there are scores of opportunities elsewhere. I would assume your education experience is either primary or secondary school...?
An option is combining the two? Instruction for the energy sector?
The quality of life can't be beat though, I* would give Alberta a chance. The air is better, winters aren't as brutal(with the chinooks), those gorgeous mountains at your backdoor, low taxes, etc etc etc. Choice is yours.

Once you have your Alberta teaching certificate, you can also apply to CCSD for a teaching post.

Family is a big thing. Calgary's winter is long.
People without a hobby will be bored no matter where they live.
But then, I am partial to Calgary, because I've family there.

northren California, Oregon and westren washington.. you just take the I-5 north which turns into Highway 99 at the border... follow it up till you see the exit for the Trans Canada HWY or #1 HWY take the east exit and after 13-14 hour drive and it will take you to alberta..
the I-5 and Trans Canada HWY are easy to navigate..the drive will take a long time and expect a one night stop at a motel/hotel... so I would stop in bellingham, WA which is right near the border and about 2 hours after you drive past seattle..then make the drive to east to alberta..
you need a valid US passport to get back into the US
As for becoming a citizen you should have already applied and been approved before you make the trip..Canada customs will ask how long you will be staying and where you are going..My guess if you are moving they would send you to go inside and to check out your temp work visa and other paper work related to immigrating to Canada
