Hi,
I would really appreciate some advice, we are relocating from the UK in October to Calgary and have four children (10,11,12 & 13), been across for a week to sort out rental houses and narrowed it down to one in the Hamptons area of Calgary and one in Arbour Lake. We're pretty confused which one to go for, really like the whole community aspect of Arbour Lake, like the idea of meeting people and integrating quicker by having the focal point, kids love the idea of skating on the lake, going to it in summer. And the school is meant to be ok. But the schools at the Hamptons seem without doubt to have the better reputation and we're torn between community vs education. Can anyone please give us any advice on which area would be the best to bring up our family in what is proving to be quite a big and scary life-changing experience!
Thanks so much.

Moving to Calgary soon too. We're making a concentrated effort to be zoned to the best school possible in the location we want (inner city). For your choices Sir Winston Churchill is supposed to be a great school so I know I would be erring on the Hamptons over Arbour Lake. The lake there looks fine but in a two or three years (or less) I can see your kids not wanting to hang out there anyway.

In any event, most neighborhoods have skating rinks and pools and in summer I know I'll be taking the kids to the mountains, no master planned community can beat that !

Definitely choose Hamptons. Sir Winston Churchill is an IB school with excellent programs and teachers. It is a well established school. Robert Thirsk is a new school that, by definition of being new, has not completely sorted out how everything works.
