For people who lost their decent job in the oil sector, is it common for them to not being able to find a new decent job from other sectors?

How is the employment level in other non-oil sectors? Is there a labour surplus and a lot of people cannot find jobs?

I have a couple of long term friends in Calgary that are working lots of overtime after years and years of being passed over by Easterners, druggies, and alcoholics. Both of their companies are bringing in trainees from GOOD placement agencies and the people just aren't making it past a few days, or in a number of cases even NOON the same day! ZZZ

Workers out of "the Patch" have gotten used to big money: it's quite an adjustment to make $$$ in town and live on a budget. The three of us were telling people four years ago that when oil tanked to 50. (and it would/did) don't get used to that new boat, iPhone Sex, jacked up chrome dipstick "twuck", and running up your girlfriends credit cards partying.

On Calgary news they've had husbands in their forties wondering what the f. happened. What happened was they'd never seen a downturn. We've seen several. But no matter the demand, if you just don't have a work ethic I don't think it can be taught.
