I've never been to Canada before, but always wanted to take a trip north, especially to visit Alberta, Calgary, maybe Edmonton, Banff National Park, etc. I'm from Colorado and I heard that Alberta is similar to Colorado, just colder. I've also heard statements before like "Alberta is the most American-like province in Canada." Is that true? How would you compare Alberta/Calgary with Colorado/Denver? I know that Frontier airlines flies direct between the two cities-- I could be there one flight away. What are your thoughts? Is Alberta definitely worth checking out?
A resounding YES!!! Alberta is definately worth checking out. I grew up in Edmonton for 20 years and also lived in Calgary for 2 and now live in the states. Out of the two I would definately say that Calgary is more "Americanized" They are both wonderful cities. I will forever have a special place in my heart for my Edmonton river valley. Banff is an incredibly beautiful little touristy town nestled in the awesome, gorgeous Alberta Rockies. I would also check out Jasper if you were going to that area. The Jasper/Banff National Highway is a must drive. I just love the Rockies!! Miss em a lot. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to try to answer them for you. Definately would make a great vacation!!
I love Calgary, it is a great city. I highly recommend doing a trip from Banff up to Jasper. The Canadian Rockies are very different than the US Rockies. Higher peaks, that turquoise water everywhere...certainly something you have to see in person.

In my opinion, Alberta is Canada's Texas. It's very beautiful but fast paced. Lots of rednecks and cowboys and it's a 'rich' province. I grew up in Calgary so I will tell you, of all the provinces, Alberta and the eastern part of BC (near the Banff area) is definitely a MUST SEE!!! Take a trip to Drumheller too!! You will NOT be disappointed!!!
many people are immigrating from all over the world to Calgary, Alberta.

VERY true!!! Problem is alot of these people who are getting jobs there are finding they can't afford the cost of living there. At least the ones coming from other parts of Canada, specifically Manitoba/Saskatchewan. Still, Alberta is personally my fav. province.

Yahoo and Giddy-Up!! I agree with you 150%. Extremly beautiful and for anyone seeking Canadian cowboys this is the ONLY province to visit.
I checked out some pics online about Banff National Park, Wow! I wonder what it will be like if go there in person.
You will be overwhelmed and overcome. I've travelled a lot in Canada (and, until 8 months ago, used to live in BC) - and I can honestly say the only place better than Banff is Cape Breton, NS. Banff, though, is a bit more easily accessible and more well thought out.
Do not hesitate to head to Banff. You won't regret it. Just please don't go during tourist season - but if you must, asks the locals for advice. How will you know them? They'll be the ones without shopping bags in tow.
