Hi, this is my first post.
I live in the UK and i want to move, with my fiance, to california (probably south west).
I was wondering where nice, low-ish crime places are near the beach (30min walk-ish maybe more)
However seeing this site i thought i would ask all your opinions on a good place to go, depending on crime rate, schools etc. Dont get be wrong im not at all....''cotton wool wrapped'' or prudish (if they are the right terms?) the UK isnt as crime free as people think lol!
But yeah i respect that locals know more than me so heres the info:

Want to move in... 3 - 5 years
Job - IT Technition/Web designer/ (maybe a programmer, depends if i go to uni)
Wage here will be £30,000 - £45,000 a year but apparntly california (Well, all of the USA) have higher wages.
I want to spend around $150,000 on a place, a condo, or townhouse, house, NICE mobile home (ive seen some really big mobile homes :S lol)
Any advice?

Why don't you concentrate on building a career in your native land? We don't have jobs for immigrants when our unemployment rate is over 12 %.

Not to rain on your parade, but as a reality check, please realize any condo or townhome in a decent area w/in a 30 minutes DRIVE of a beach in Southern California (LA south to San Diego) is going to cost minimally $250-300k.

So Cal is a very expensive place to live. Even with your $75k down payment you will need to earn close to $100k annually (Household income, not just you) to qualify for a $225k mortgage to cover the rest. Your nest egg is a nice start, just be realistic what you are looking at. SoCal does not come cheap.

Good Luck.

Thankyou for the information, i have been looking at imperial beach and temecula instead, they seem alot cheaper and i can afford places i have seen.
Also i find that you are right it would be hard to get a sponsered job for a visa, so i was thinking, it is possible to get a business visa, as long as i have a $150k business.
I think over the years i will buy cheap properties around the USA and rent them out to people, untill i have $150k worth of properties, as this surely counts? If not please let me know lol
Thankyou
