Default Calif. license plates might go digital, show ads

Calif. license plates might go digital, show ads - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100621/ap_on_hi_te/us_tec_techbit_electronic_license_plates - broken link)

What do you folks think? I think we are quickly becoming the laughingstock around the country.

This reminds me of when Principal Skinner housed state prisoners in Springfield Elementary to bring in money. California is a showcase of ridiculous desperation.

It'll get hacked in 5 minutes. I'd love to change my license plate and avoid red light cameras or toll road violations. Just wait until someone makes everyone's license plate to display porn.

It'll probably never happen but that won't stop the state from spending a few million bucks exploring it.

Isn't this where California Sur jumps in and says this is what the citizens have asked their legislators to do?

Just think what the low rider crowd could do with this.

"The company's chief executive, M. Conrad Jordan, said he envisioned the license plates as not just another advertising venue, but as a way to display personalized messages — broadcasting the driver's allegiance to a sports team or an alma mater, for example."

Isn't that already accomplished by bumper stickers and those annoying flags?
I demand an inquiry into the relationship between the Democratic senator who is sponsoring this tripe and the company poised to make the plates.

Actually, the first "early adapters" will likely be the GOP Wingnuts. Already I'm imagining the scrolling "public service announcements" on the back of the Escalade (or Ford pickup ) in front of me..... "NOBAMA is a Kenyan.... a Socialist.... a Communist..... he's Hitler!!!..."

I'd rather have a rear license plate that senses some tailgater and flips him off automatically.
