John Mackey used to be CEO of Whole Foods. But he resigned a few months back.

Some say Mackey was forced out because of expressing his political views too much. His political views were libertarian and he was outspoken about them.

The typical Whole Foods shopper leans liberal/progressive and investors started getting nervous that he was offending the customers. For example, Mackey opposed the Health Care Bill in a WSJ editorial.

John Elstrott is now CEO. His political views are so far not an issue.

thanks for that, yes, marketing to progressives while espousing anti progressive views is not a way to achieve greater sales.

Do you think Whole Foods would want to be next to New Frontiers or do you think that they want to go in New Frontier's old location?

I heard New Frontiers plans to keep their store open. So I guess they might go next to Target or I heard they are going to make the size for a market in a the Garden Street Terrace project bigger.

Support your local merchants. Why give your money to a giant corporation that fought healthcare reform and had to close their Chicago store last year because of rats, per the Trib.? WHen you spend your money locally it benefits the whole community.

I am still in support of Whole Foods. If they don't take over New Frontier's location, then they will be going in Garden Street Terrace but in a bigger market than originally planned. Whole Foods is cheaper than New Frontiers btw.

Not everything is about the 'bottom line'.

There are plenty of places in SLO to get healthy, good quality food without bringing yet another conglomerate into the area.

This might be true, but I'm not the only one who likes this store. In fact, there is a Facebook group to bring Whole Foods to SLO now.

Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, and Monterey have their Trader Joes and Whole Foods. Whole Foods brings in revenue, tourism, treat their employees good, and they buy local produce. Why would SLO not want a store like that?

I don't understand why Whole Foods didn't take the location next where Circuit City was. They want a new building in downtown at Garden Street Terrace. Apparently, the developers are changing the square feet of the market to make the size fit for Whole Foods. My hopes are Whole Foods find another location and drops out of that project. Taking over the location where the old New Frontiers building is would be great.
