Has anyone taken the Physical Abilities Test at Atascadero?
I just got off the phone with someone from their medical department and she scared me to death. How hard is the test?

I was told I should sprint up steep hills for 2 minutes all out if I want to be adequately prepared... Is it really that strenuous?

Are you trying to get a psych tech position or a state hospital police position? Bear in mind, in both cases you're dealing with persons who have criminal backgrounds, many of whom are straight out of state prison and criminally sophisticated. Add to that the fact that they could be psychotic or have other disorders (many of them are sex offenders) and you'd better be in some sort of shape to deal with them and protect yourself and others.

I am intersted to apply for Atascadero State Hospital. Wow! Somebody posted that they have that kind of physical exam...? sounded like applying for a police officer. I work at Oregon State Hospital and I didn't go through on that kind of physical test. I guess that's the way it should be.

Been attacked by a client having a psychotic break? Running up a hill is nothing compared to hours trying to subdue a big, strong, angry person who's lost control.

The want to know if you can withstand an assault by an inmate, they seem to happen near daily.

The hospital is cutting 13 shrink jobs. It isn't going to get safer.

I am curious, are you checking in there or going for a job?

You can look up the exact specs for State jobs on the State website. The job announcement should have included that info also.
