Sorry to the OP for throwing in another commute option.
Actually if a person has the time, driving up Highway One from Morro Bay to Monterey Bay is something every Californian should experience. The magnificent views of the Pacific at 1000 feet above the beach on a sheer cliff is one of the most beautiful sights in the nation. The highway was built by prisoners who had to crave a road out of the steep mountainsides. Big Sur is the farthest south where redwood trees grow and you can camp under them in Pfeiffer state park. You mentioned Bixby Creek bridge; a place I once camped below on the beach

We camped & sometimes had picnics below Bixby Bridge, too.

There are a number of threads here that will answer that question for you. I don't want to drive this one off the rails.

If you take a course in California geology you'll find the trip up the 5 a lot more fascinating. I find the eye can wander a bit more to appreciate it too and it becomes every bit (or moreso therefore) as scenic.

Found it. There's a smack down on page 2, quite entertaining. I just browse through it, it was more of an execution.

Use of "the" to identify freeways - where does it start/end?

I can't drive through a road cut without staring at what's been uncovered.

Yep, you can see where the faults run in some places.

FYI: I didn't say I got sick of Big Sur. I said I got sick of the drive around Big Sur.
