It does appear Fresno State has about the same amount of students. Fresno State is more of a commuter school though which means not a concentration of stuff to do for college aged students. There is more night life in Fresno though.

It is much hotter than San Luis Obispo but not unbearable especially around sunset.
I love that sentence, yeah, but, the rest of the day it will fry your eyeballs!!

Remember folks, life is too short to live on flat ground. San Luis has little of that!

Yesterday moving daughter in to the dorms, looking out her living room window, the view from there of the four of the seven sisters is really a world class view, and several of those peaks have fine hiking trails, and rock climbing routes.

Yes, you can escape Fresno for fine country. But, San Luis is fine country.

Actually about 50% of the students at Fresno State are from somewhere other than Fresno County. Heck students just from San Luis Obispo County represent about 1% of Fresno State students.

And I don't know, Fresno State provides some great college life experiences. For example, there is more of a college football atmosphere at Fresno State games then at Cal Poly games. (Fresno's video is by a Univ of Cincinnati fan who attended that game in Fresno 2 weeks ago). Much larger crowd and more of a traditional college game day atmosphere at Fresno.

And besides, college represents only 4 or 5 years out of a person's life. (well 4 or 5 years for most people) Most adults are not college students and are looking for other things to do.

LOL, It was your suggestion that SLO is the place people should live. Just throw up a few 50 story condo buildings and make room.

Dibs on the top floor for the view.

Ha ha, if SLO was the size of Fresno it would still be better cuz of the college and location. I see the reason why I shouldn't compare the two cities though. 50,000 ppl compared to 500,000 ppl.

Yeah, but a majority of students at Cal Poly SLO r not from SLO county. A majority are from the Bay Area followed by LA, then Central Coast, and then Central Valley, and then areas further away. We have a good number of out staters too. That's what ya get for having the top engineering school in the west coast and number 3 architecture school in the West Coast.

This is so true. I grew up within walking distance of Bulldog Stadium and then went to Cal Poly for college. BIG difference for sure. CP's games were sort of quaint and similar to high school games (this was before they built their stadium addition).

I'll be at the FSU vs. Cal Poly football game in a few weeks, feeling very torn.

Cal Poly is definitely a very good school but Fresno State is seeing academic growth. Its looking like Fresno is the next among the CSUs to be more than a "commuter school" as you called it.

The Fresno State MBA program was recognized by Princeton Review this year as one of the top 15 MBAs in the US for General Management and in Operations.
Fresno State in Top 15 Business Grad Schools in 2 categories - Craig.MBA

The Fresno State business school was the 1st school at any CSU campus to receive a multi-million dollar endowment (Fresno State now has 4 endowed schools - Business, Education, Engineering and also Agriculture; Cal Poly has only 1 endowed school).

Only Cal Poly SLO and San Diego State have larger total endowments than Fresno State, no other CSU is even close to what those 3 have in endowment value. (the others have less than half the amount of money) That represents strong donor support for those 3 campuses.
California State University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fresno State (and a couple of other CSUs) just got permission to add a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree to go along with its EdD (all of these are free-standing degrees not a joint doctorate with a UC). The health fields are not a Cal Poly strength and it will not do the health doctorates.

Part of the Fresno campus (45 acres) is now being developed into a mixed-use commercial area catering to students. Should make a nice student central square gathering spot after classes. New student/faculty/staff housing is already finished and open. Construction starts next on 150,000 sq ft of shops/restaurants/bars, etc oriented to student preferences plus an on-campus hotel/conference center and more.

Not at the same level in some areas as Cal Poly but Fresno State is gaining on it.
