Nearly $69 million in welfare money meant to help California's neediest families has been spent or withdrawn in places like Hawaii, Las Vegas casinos and cruise ships from Miami.
The finding reported Monday in the Los Angeles Times is based on data compiled between January 2007 and May 2010 by the California Department of Social Services.

This is nothing new. The liberals in the state have made it clear that california tax payers welfare money is not only not reserved for california, but it is not reserved for californians.

Casino's, uh ok. But where did the money come from to go to Hawaii? A cruise from Miami? After all these welfare recepients were at their last wits. Their BABIES couldn't get milk, formula, or clothes. And us big bad meanies of Republicans, wanted to keep them for that.

Oh, well, I guess its ok if their BABIES don't get formula. As long as their parents get to surf in Hawaii. After all, our tax dollars should go for this.

Its only 1% of the total 10 BILLION DOLLARS we spend on Welfare so Im not too dissapointed-although its a travesty of course.

That said, we need to take care of our poor and 69 Million is a pittance compared to the good the rest of that money does.

Now you all can try to villify the poor and make them all out to appear like scammers who are cheating the system but this Liberal Democrat is not having it.

We are obligated by our morals and sense of goodness to help them and if you don't like it, then move to Texas or wherever else they have decided that its more important to line the pockets of corporations than feed the poor.

California is not like that. Thank God.

First of all that 1% is who they caught , the obvious incidents, red flags. That does not mean the total amount of fraud was 1%. Obviously with such a staggering amount of money paid out $10.8 billioin, such a large figure $69 million is a small percent but a pitance I think not, is still ,yes shocking . That does not even begin to count the fraud in disability, which from some of the people I have come in contact with, is just amazing. for example people living in single family home coasting over 700,000 that have kids on free lunch programs, or on medicaid, salaries have to be low to qualify, not allow you to but a 700,000 dollar house. Many people know knows someone like this, really the system is full of fraud and not a small percent at all.

Right. There are a few welfare scammers out there. $387,908 spent on Hawaii, and $16,010 spent on cruise ships, out of $10 billion in welfare money. And that fact was uncovered by none other than California Department of Social Services - the big bad government itself.

What is our suggestion? Should we dismantle the program and block the access for some truly needy families because 0.01% of people in the program are scammers?

Thank you Mother Theresa! At least the corporations provide goods and/or services that I can use (remember that the next time you gas up your car). Those corporations provide thousands of jobs and those workers pay taxes and buy things. The parisitic poor don't do anything for me except leech off the work of other people.
