I'm thinking perhaps the size of the city's population has something to do with salary. Managing a police force for 800,000 people is a bigger job than managing a police force for 400,000. Just a thought.

How else do you think they can afford to stay in California...along with the sky-high cost of living.

Hmm,

Just a question: Do you wear a bullet proof vest to work? Also, how about those athletes you may support in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and their salaries. Who's more important to society...

Its their unwillingness to bend on receiving outlandish retirement packages thats breaking municipal budgets-not their actual salaries.

Just a thought: When the economy is great, you never hear a word about public safety salaries or pensions. The last time I checked, the free market dictates a person's worth. As it stands with the economy now, I can assure you and others that police and fire are giving back part of their salaries to assist the cities and counties they represent. Again, law enforcement and fire protection is a stressful and risky occupation, they should recieve a soild pension. Just my two cents..

Last time I checked, money taken out of my pay check didn't go to the salaries of professional athletes.

Senior managers of a multi-thousand employee workforce making big money?
I've got no problem with that. Do you want the police force to be managed by minimum wage desk jockeys, or by highly educated professionals?
