Default What City to Live Near Mt Sac/ Cal Poly Pomona for College Student? [Low Crime/Low $]

Im going to start going to School at Mt Sac (which is next to Cal Poly Pomona) but Im trying to decide where to move. I am willing to drive up to 30-40 min (with traffic) and somewhere wheres crime is low to decent (no bad neighborhoods), not too expensive apartments/housing (looking for 1 bedroom for now). I know if the lower the rent, the more crime and vice versa, right? Chino hills or walnut or san dimas or corona would be nice but i heard thats too much $$$. I was looking into Pomona but heard crime is super high there(?) or ontario (i want to get a job there @ airport or mall)?
Any feedback would be nice. =)

Aunt Wonnie is on a distinguished road
One of my nephews goes to Mt. SAC and a decade ago my brother taught a night class there. Nano, please check with the Mt. SAC Student Housing or Student Services or whatever they call it. There isn't anything private, cheap AND safe within 30-40 minutes WITHOUT traffic. Maybe you could find a roommate or get a room in a private home; do you have friends or family or church contacts down there? Could you apply for a housing grant? Have you checked on apartments.com? Now I'm worried about you; you'll be spending all your time working and sitting in your car on the freeway, but a student needs the time to study and think! Maybe you have scholarships or could apply for some. And make sure you have a reliable car. (Sorry to sound naggy, it's just so different down there from Bakersfield!)

High Sierra is on a distinguished road
I am from the High Sierra's and my husband and I are thinking of Eureka Ca or surrounding areas. Does anyone know about employment up there?
