Default California gets 40% of GLOBAL Green Tech Venture Capital!

California leads nation in green tech - SFGate

Quote:
It's not true that businesses are fleeing the state, Henton said. Adding up the numbers of businesses that started up compared with those that closed or moved elsewhere showed that the state gained a net average of 58,500 new businesses each year from 1995 to 2008, the report said.

California's leadership in green technology bodes well for its future, the report said. The state has attracted $11.6 billion in clean-tech venture capital since 2006, about one-quarter of all global investment in the sector. In the first half of this year it drew 40 percent of all global clean-tech VC. More than half that money was invested in Silicon Valley.

California also had a disproportionate share of U.S. solar energy patents (39 percent of those issued from 2007 to 2009), battery technology patents (20 percent in the same time period) and wind energy patents (16 percent in that period). In 2007, the state generated 90 percent of the country's total solar electricity output.
World take note, California is not done yet.

California has a lot of smart people. The aerospace industry, the computer industry, and now green tech likes the pool from which to draw.

Yup we'll go all green and incur the high competitive disadvantage that goes with it. Then our offshore competitors who are too smart for this nonsense will eat our lunch.

Actually our fiercest competitors in this field are from abroad. China and UAE pop into mind almost immediately.

I recently attended a conference in North Africa on the topic of solar energy(for example)--it is so interesting how heavily invested China and the UAE are in developing these technologies.

I think California needs to not only get on the bus, but drive the sucker...LOL

The only reason our dollar is worth anything is because oil is priced in dollars. If the Middle East decides to start pricing it in Euros or Renminbi, I hate to think what will happen to our currency.

Among the problems in our future is that we are not going to be the biggest buyer of oil in the future.
