Neither are currently CEO, Whitman left Ebay in 2008 and Fiorina left HP/Agilent in 2005.

I think Fiorina is still in play. If you have opinion polls to the contrary I'd like to see them.

Fiorina still has a chance, but it doesn't look good for her. The LAT/USC poll in today's Times cited by the OP has Boxer up by 8.

Carly is way too far-right for California. She can be expected to win the Central Valley, the I.E., and San Diego, but will probably lose everywhere else. She's never led, and it seems the more Californians see her, the less they like. It'll be fairly close, I think (3-8 points), but Boxer will win.

To bad for the GOP, because Boxer looks and sounds tired. She was really vulnerable this year. A decent GOP moderate like Tom Campbell might have sent her to the showers.

You continue to make some excellent points. Republicans in California are their own worst enemies. They invariably reject a more moderate candidate who might have a good shot at winning because their conservative ideology interferes with good sense. Republicans have very few coalitions and tend to be isolated from the general population. Throw in Tea Party nuts and you have a political party that Californians reject. Republicans went after Tom Campbell because they think he might be pro-gay marriage! Duh! In another 10 years most states in the nation will likely recognize gay marriage. The writing in on the wall but narrow-minded ideologically-driven Republicans are on the losing side of history and progress and will forever be rejected by thinking Americans unafraid of the future, who embrace progress and science and denounce superstition and childish religious dogmas.

Common sense escapes the Republican party of today and why Ronald Reagan would never be the GOP candidate if he were running today. A sad development for a once proud political party now overrun by Southerners.

Here's what happening; everyone, including the conservatives (who at this point in time go hand in hand with reps.) know that what happens in Ca. generally spreads across the country. As the conservatives are in decline here, many on the right are looking into the future so to speak. Think about it, even Iowa has legalized gay marriage, even surpassing Ca. in doing so. This a state that Obama also won in the primaries then in the election. A state that, until recently was usually more conservative and 10 years ago would have been laughable if you told anyone they'd legalize gay marriage. This has caused conservatives to do the only thing that they still have power to do, get mad and insult liberals. As long as the Republicans continue to align themselves with that faction, they will continue to push themselves into obscurity.

There will be conservative and republican victories, however these will slowly decline in frequency in all but the most conservative of places.

Exactly, those Republicans with some insight know fully well that if they continue to promote a Religious Right agenda that they will not only be the "Party of the South" but the party of just a few Southern states. Their current direction is to nowhere but as you say, "obscurity." And good riddance.

Default Whitman better suited for Halloween

The more one looked at Whitman, the more repulsive she appeared....her politics too.

Her first big mistake was in considering a run. She was then endorsed by Dick Cheney. End of story!

Another loss for those very, very pathetic Conservatives.

More baseless bashing from the liberals

What's sad is the liberals repeat what they are programmed to think from mainstream media and liberal politicians. They have lost the ability to think on their own.
