Default New Poll shows Kamala Harris with a 1-point lead over Steve Cooley for AG

I guess a 1-point lead really equals a dead heat considering the margin of error but I thought he was winning in most recent polls? Interesting how things are changing at the last minute...

Her commercials which show Cooley saying he'd draw upon his generous LA County pension while serving as AG have hurt him in a time when there's considerable anger at pensions of high ranking officials. Not to mention she is a good looking woman....

Both are highly flawed candidates and it's a choice of bad or worse, but as word of Cooley's reluctance to investigate pedophile cover-ups in the Archdiocese of L.A. hierarchy and his reluctance to prosecute political corruption cases as D.A. until the Bell scandal blew up in his face gets around, he can only be hurt. Cooley in his defense has claimed that he avoided indicting pedo-protectors and corrupt municipal politicians because of the difficulty of getting convictions in such cases.

I agree.

I don't think either has really proven themselves worthy of the job but alas they are our choices.

LOL! So it may very well come down to the California Dream Team I predicted -- Brown, Newsom, Harris and Boxer. Too funny and so pathetic. A state with the size and resources of California really should be able to do far better than that.

I can see the new border signs now -- Welcome to California. Owned, operated and brought to you by your labor unions!

Yeah! "Pathetic" is the right word.

I'm probably going to vote the straight Dem ticket. To be honest, I haven't seen a lot of advertising from the other folks. It's mostly Meg, Meg, Meg, Jerry, Carly, Boxer, Meg, Meg, Meg, Meg, Meg.

Default Kamala far the superior candidate here

Cooley just another good ol boy who benefits from the unearned privilege. Harris given less consideration throughout her life and has traveled further to get where she is. She's far more intelligent, articulate, effective, versatile, and creative. She's by far the superior candidate and would without a doubt get more done.

My vote went for Kamala Harris, easy. In general, Republican candidates would be better suited for the late night episodes of "Creature Feature." Meg would be the Bride of Frankenstein or even Frankenstein himself.

Can you name some people you would like to see in there?

What unearned privilege did Cooley have? His father was an FBI agent. He went to a public California university. He was a police officer.

Harris' mother was a physician, and her father a university professor. She attended a private university in DC.

I am not saying Cooley is a better candidate or not. I really don't know. But he isn't a trust fund baby. I fail to see how Harris followed a more difficult path than Cooley.

You do know that Frankenstein is not the name of the monster, right? In Mary Shelley's book, Dr. Frankenstein created the monster - who did not have a name.

Not any more. Been out of the political venue for two years now. At issue is less the who than the what. For a state that "celebrates its diversity," that certainly doesn't often include representation. My real point was that electing three very liberal individuals to major statewide leadership positions may not really be such a good idea in some respects.

Barbara Boxer, well, enough said...!

FBI agents are paid better than university professors.
Cooley grew up in L.A.'s Los Feliz neighborhood, Harris grew up in Oakland as the daughter of immigrants. (Not sure what area - any Oaktown peeps here know?).
Cooley went to USC Law School and Harris went to Hastings in SF (which is part of the UC system).
Both were career prosecutors before becoming DA.

I don't think either one is a good candidate. It's a matter of the lesser of two evils, whichever one may think.

As for who would be better: on the GOP side, Tom Campbell would make a superb AG. On the Dem side: Lawrence Lessig has never held elected office but would be a good choice. Of people who have held elected office, maybe Paul Gallegos? Ideal third party candidates: James Gray (Libertarian) and Matt Gonzalez (Green)
