Make these men and women earn their salaries. If the people want legislation considered then it needs to be done through an elected representative. Force these people to work together and govern this state! There is a reason our representatives form committees to investigate the viability certain types of legislation. Yet, any yahoo with enough financial backing can get anything thrown on the ballot without any real consideration for the long term impact of their proposed legislation. I do agree with Arnold's sentiments when he said ballot box governing is a joke. I just can't support it anymore.
They are forced to work together when the budget requires a 2/3 vote. Otherwise the Democrats could write the budget themselves.

Keep in mind we are talking about a group of people (legislators) who are so out of touch with reality that they think one of the biggest modern problems is plastic grocery bags

And making sure that 17 and a half year olds don't play any M-rated video games. That issue truly threatens the future of the republic.

From Tom McClintock's site:
Quote:
Prop 24: Because Taxes Just Aren’t High Enough. NO. This is a predictable entry by the public employee unions to impose an additional $1.7 billion tax on businesses. The problem, of course, is that businesses don’t pay business taxes – we do. Business taxes can only be paid in three ways: by us as consumers (through higher prices), by us as employees (through lower wages) and by us as investors (through lower earnings on our 401(k)’s).

Prop 25: Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Fire. NO. This changes the 2/3 vote requirement for the state budget to a simple majority – a reform I have long supported. Experience has shown that the current 2/3 vote requirement for the budget does not restrain spending and it utterly blurs accountability. But such a reform MUST repair the 2/3 vote requirement for all tax increases and restore constitutional spending and borrowing limits. Without these provisions, Prop. 25 would be a disaster for taxpayers and a recipe for bankruptcy.
I'm fiscally conservative.

Whomever is in the majority should have the right to fashion the budget how they see fit.

That's why we put them there-to do what we want!

Don't like it? Then try to take back control of the legislature.

Instead, we have a small group of teething babies who stall the budget just to pound their chests. Its time for that nonsense to end. I'm so over it.

I voted no on both.

And, the majority is not always right. Remember Proposition 8? It's a good thing that the court overruled that proposition, even though the majority voted yes on it.

Not in the least.

The people at large are protected by the people they send to Sacramento to work in their best interests.

The two-thirds requirement as it is today, doesnt do anything but give a fringe extremist group of legislators the opportunity to hold up the people's business.

Nothing more.

California should join the vast majority of states and require a simple majority.

Furthermore the two-thirds requirement gives a very small group of individuals a far greater amount of power than they actually deserve.

And so we so the state at a standstill every year, its time to change that.
