I can see the mountains (on non-cloudy days) behind my house about 85-90% of the time.
But I live in one of the less smoggy areas.

I came from Chicago, grew up in SoCal, moved to Oregon for a couple years and have been around the U.S, Europe, Asia, Mexico and Japan and after every trip I just couldn't wait to get back to California. But I will say Spain was pretty nice as well.

I am sure there are areas where the people are snobby or less friendly as I am sure there are in any state but I haven't lived in them.
I think the west overall is a friendly area of the country as I have seen in Arizona, Oregon, Colorado and Nevada.
Anyone else want to say California is friendly and defend our state?

Sorry, I do not agree.

Oh gosh I just returned to Michigan from a vacation in N. California. I had lived in N. California for 17 years but already felt culture shock when I returned there. Such friendly, happy, polite people every where I went! People just went out of their way to be nice for no reason at all. There really is no place like California to me, I'm ready to come home!

Recent transplant from the east coast and I can say that Californians have been friendly overall but the friendliness can sometimes border on rudeness. I am one of the rare breed here (I guess) with four children and I've had no end of comments (meant in a friendly way but comes out making me feel uncomfortable) about it. If you compare east coast to west coast friendliness, I would say people here have been much nicer.
