It was 1976 and I was excited to move to Calif but a little nervous inside. I was a preteen and all the teenage stuff you go through anyways on top of moving to CALIFORNIA was big.
I did not find that to be the case though. Californians welcomed us with open arms. I felt accepted fairly quickly (once I stopped wearing my flooded plaid Brady Bunch pants).
Anyways, California is different, that was very clear to me being I was from Ohio but it was different in a good way IMHO.
I'll never forget standing at my bus stop and looking at all the mountains around us and thinking that they looked like someone painted them there. They didn't look real to me, they looked like this huge beautiful painting.

Hey Roma,
I moved to TO in 77 at the ripe old age of 13. Small world, huh? Did you go to TO High?
It has changed quite a bit since then, but I also found it to be a very friendly area. We moved here from the Valley (my little brother was going to be bussed). Felt like we were moving a million miles away, however. Such a different atmosphere in TO.
Now my kids are teenagers and the city is still a great place to live.
Re: the mtns. I can look out my master bedroom window and see the mtns that separate Conejo Valley from the ocean
AND I will say that for the most part, this area has pretty friendly people. We do have some snobs around town, but they are pretty easy to spot & are easy to avoid. Everyone else is pretty nice
