Default modesto,manteca

Looking for overall impression of relocating to Modesto, Manteca for job opportunity. Have heard both terrible idea as well as OK if you find right place to live. Relocating from southern AZ (which is a good thing). Any info on working in Modesto and living in area is general greatly appreciated. We are outdoor lifestyle people if that helps.

Do you already have a job or are you retiring?

If you don't have a job, forget it. Unemployment is 16.2% for Stanislaus county where Modesto is - 12.4% average for the whole state.

Have you ever been to Manteca?

Modesto is a bit better, I would look towards Turlock or Oakdale.

I say stay out of California if you can. Look who just got voted in as the next governor. Employee pensions are ridiculous here and you, the taxpayer, are going to get stuck paying for it. We have a huge illegal problem here too and there is a very high concentration of them in Modesto and Manteca. If you have to move here, do so but if you don't have to, I say find somewhere else. California has gone way downhill and will continue to do so.

I agree. The commute from Oakdale to Modesto is a breeze.

Compared to S. Arizona..........you'll like it here.

Oakdale is one of the best little towns in the state and 30 minutes from Manteca and 20 minutes from Modesto.

There's also a couple of towns on the way to Oakdale from Motown like Riverbank that have some country charm to them as well.

Now this person speaks the truth! I advise anyone especially with kids to steer clear of the central valley, not to be rude or cause trouble but as help from someone who is living in the WORST part of the state
