I would really appreciate it.

Default Lompoc Surf at sunset from a moving train

These aren't great and may not describe Lompoc the city for you, but I took some pictures with a low mega-pixel camera phone of the awesome coastline at Lompoc Surf from the Amtrak last winter.

Very cool links cre8! Thanks! I love how you took those pictures from the the train. It sets/captures the mood for/of that particular coastline. It must have been a neat trip.

(I just couldn't think of a better word then neat--LOL! I kept getting images of Bobby Brady from the Brady bunch saying this as I mulled it over with no luck for a replacement. Just seemd right. :-)

Thanks, Bobby Brady! The coast north of Point Conception near Lompoc has a certain quality all its own, I agree -- cool, rugged yet serene. The train goes right along the coast in that area, through Vandenberg, so you get views from the train that you miss driving on the highway.

The view from the train or the highway is all right, but you have got to experience it standing on the rocks with a 13' graphite rod, Penn Jigmaster reel, and 20 lb. test line fighting the current.

When the clouds burn off, about noon, the fishing isn't that great, but you won't want to leave. You remove your windbreaker, break out a soft drink and some peanuts, and can't think of anywhere else you'd rather be.

If you don't return home by dark you know that they'll send out a search party so, grudgingly, you pack up and trudge thru the sand to the car. You keep an eye out for the rattlesnakes, and maybe that mountain lion you saw a few years ago has some cubs running around now.

You stop at the RR crossing. Amtrak coming thru. Some folks taking pictures. While waiting you check your tide tables for tomorrow and see that high tide is at 7:15. Perfect. Must remember to pick up some fresh bait tonight.

These pictures and the links are wonderful. My family and I are moving to the Lompoc area in May-June as my husband is getting transferred there by his company (he will be working on Vandenburg AFB). Of course I had to do lots of research before I go. I grew up in the Seattle area and we have been living in Sierra Vista, AZ for the last 4+ years and I personally am very excited about being near the ocean again!

Somewhere near Lompoc or the air force base, isnt there a little valley where they grow flowers for seed? You drive into this valley and all of a sudden there are acres and acres of every color flower you could think of. One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen!
