Hi,

My partner and I are currently living on Long Island in New York, and would love to relocate somewhere that is liberal minded, artsy, and cheap comparatively to the surrounding areas. We are looking for the Brooklyn of the west coast lol! We would love to live in Oakland being close to San Francisco, or even Somewhere more south near San Diego. Ultimately we are dead set on California, but it needs to be somewhere that has kind of a trendy, urban feel, and at the same time not crime ridden; even though we are not as worried about crime when taking the ambiance of the area into consideration (would rather be near cool stuff and forgo some safety). Also we don't mind being outside the action, or in a town close to what we desire. I am hoping to find a nice 1/1 condo for under or around 100k that doesn't have ridiculous HOA fees. Also being near good medical facilities as well as Cannabis Dispensaries is important too considering we both have HIV. We are both disabled and need close proximity to everything. Before we buy we will rent and shop around a bit so places to rent for under $1000 would be a good starting point.

Thanks.

Take 2 of the 3 and you may have a chance of finding something. I'd guess the best you'll get right now in So Cal may be downtown Santa Ana, and that's still probably out of your price range and not the safest area(still undergoing gentrification by the hipsters/art house/whatever people)

You won't find that in the Bay Area. Under 100K and not crime ridden? lol

Don't think you will find that in any of the big cities along the coast ... unless you can live in a floating ocean front condo

Do you work? Won't job location play into this?

Disabled? Weed dispensaries? Good medical close to a $100k condo?

I'm curious .... what attracts these people to CA? Are we really that much of a welfare state?

MAYBE in Moreno Valley, Palmdale, Chino.

There is no such place. Forget under $100K, forget affordable/safe, forget artsy or forget California.

I usually try to be optimistic in these types of threads.... but no way in hell are you going to meet all your criteria for under 100k.

Unless you're open to living in a mobile home park, and even that's going to be hard to find.

It might not be as hard as we all think:
