What I would like to know is what part of federal immigration law gives illegals the right to be here, much less taking advantage of such percs as resident tuition; especially when they're taking up space legal immigrants and citizens could use.

As this was a CA Supreme Court decision, and after it's inevitably upheld by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, I hope the SCOTUS agrees to hear the issue.

Philosophically, I understand both opposing and supporting views on this, but I wonder if folks down south of the border and beyond might be encouraged by this to come on over for some freebies.
I used to live in the European Union and definitely saw policies like this being taken advantage of by other nationalities.

Let me illuminate with a couple of anecdotes;

Juan, he and his family entered this country illegally. Today he is both a citizen and a renown professor in one of California's finest Universities.

Pedro, he and his family entered this country illegally. Today he is both a citizen and a prominent businessman in his community employing over 1200 employees.

Why? Because they were given a free public education and the opportunity for higher education, given them by the enlightened citizens of this nation.

Some of you would prefer that they be gangsters and drug pushers the usual result of being denied the tools to improve themselves and serve their communities.

Some would prefer criminals be deported and that we focus our money and education on the legal citizens we have.

We don't have enough cattle cars to load all the "criminals" onto. Get over it, nobody is going to deport them.

Now this is too funny, these two former "Criminals" undoubtedly make more money each year than you.

In truth, these folks are in what was once part of their country. The invaders who waged an illegal war to acquire the southwest were the true criminals, by law.

The law states that the children qualify for in state tuition, not free college. A recent check of the cost of one year at Cal Poly SLO, from their web site, in state tuition room and board, $26,000. This is a lot of money for anyone who desires to attend a state college, legal or not.

But that isn't the point of why people don't think this is a good idea. I agree, we are pretty much stuck with the aliens that are already here and yes, better that they are educated than partake in drugs and gangs and violence etc. But that isn't the problem.

The problem is that it INCENTIVIZES new people to come to this country illegally. It perpetuates the illegal alien problem. Illegal aliens now know that all they need is a good coyote to take them across the border, and free or reduced education is yet ANOTHER one of the benefits they will receive for their illegal activity. Is this the kind of policy we want to promote? We might as well offer free land as well.

It doesn't take cattle cars, it takes enforcement of our current laws, more work on those who employ illegals and putting an end to the freebies and a$$ kissing.

Look folks, if you want to discuss the court ruling that is OK.

If you want to get into this whole illegal immigration thing, open up a thread in the P&OC Illegal Immigration Forum.

If the discussion doesn't get back to the ruling, I'll have to close the thread and delete "off topic" postings.
