Los Angeles - old buildings downtown, Venice Beach, 3rd St Santa Monica

San Diego - Balboa Park, zoo, USS Midway

Fresno - inexpensive yet safe (northeast side), Forestiere Underground Gardens, access to Kings Canyon

San Francisco - like stepping into a time machine, victorians, Union Square

Oakland - downtown, Warriors at Oracle, Dunsmuir (if it is still open, been a few years)

Redding - not familiar with city

San Jose - Santana Row, Valley Fair, Winchester House

Sacramento - Midtown, Capital, Midwestern feel of East Sac and Land Park

Santa Barbara - wasn't too impressed, to be honest (liked Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Luis Obispo much more than SB)

Los Angeles - South Bay beaches, the Hollywood Bowl, Diversity of culture and foods (true melting pot)

San Diego - The many nice beaches with great surf spots (warmer water), Balboa Park, Sea World (for the kiddos)

Fresno - The Blossom Trail in Spring, The Sierra Foothills right next door, proximity to Kings canyon

San Francisco - Golden Gate Park, the bridges, proximity to wide open spaces and beauty

Oakland - not enough time there

Redding - never been there

San Jose - Silicon Valley, proximity to great universities like Stanford, proximity to Santa Cruz and Monterey

Sacramento - proximity to wide open spaces like Grass Valley, proximity to Sierra Foothills, proximity to Tahoe

Santa Barbara - Rincon, my favorite point break (surf spot) growing up, Westmont College, the northern part county near Solvang and Los Olivos

Ah, the conundrum which city? I think Ed Abbey said it the best
Quote:
"Men come and go, cities rise and fall, whole civilizations appear and disappear-the earth remains, slightly modified. The earth remains, and the heartbreaking beauty where there are no hearts to break....I sometimes choose to think, no doubt perversely, that man is a dream, thought an illusion, and only rock is real. Rock and sun."
— Edward Abbey (Desert Solitaire a Season In the Wildern)

Los Angeles Tons of fun, exciting, beach towns.

San Diego Near perfect climate, beautiful, lots of recreational opportunites

Fresno Short drive from three national parks, friendly people, The Tower District

San Francisco My home town - One of the most beautiful cities in the world, fantastic restaurants, weird in a good way.

Oakland The Hills are nice, has some cool old buildings, err... thats about it.

Redding Pretty location, quiet, lots of recreation areas around it.

San Jose Good suburban type shopping...that's all I can think of

Sacramento Close to the Gold Country, Old Sacramento State Historical Park, nice downtown.

Santa Barbara Beautiful mission, pretty architecture, nice shops
