Jobless Californians take a year to find a job

It's a tough job market out there in California, with the average search taking nine months — and up to a year if you were unemployed seeking work, according to a new survey by Accenture, the global management consulting firm.

In October, one out of eight Californians (12.4%) was unemployed.

“We find that many companies prefer to hire from the pool of employed persons, which can further contribute to the slow decline in unemployment,” said Chris DiGiorgio, Accenture's California managing director. “We encourage our clients to think about the 12.4% of unemployed Californians as a valuable source of talent and consider opportunities to re-train some of these workers to fill the skills gap many face.”
