Boeing's Spectrolab (located in Sylmar, CA so it's a CA post), is about to mass produce its high efficiency solar cells. The "big deal" about this is their solar cells are the most efficent available today. Until now, though, they were only used for space applications.

If they can pull this off and make it decently cheap, the whole solar panel game may be changed by this... You can produce more electricity with less compared to other panels + it would work better in less than optimal enviornments. Heck, if panels based on this tech is cheap enough, I might even buy them...

This would certainly be a big step forward in the current renewable energy area and that SoCal company as well.

BTW sorry the title should read "Boeing's Spectrolab will mass produce about 100Mw of cells in 2011". Screwed up the title.
