I am a 23 year old Irish female looking to buy a home with money I recently inherited (my boyfriend will be living with me). I can only get a loan/afford around 200k-250k (HOA restrictions on pets are usually 1 or 2 small pets (we have 2 cats and 2 large dogs) so condos are out) so I am mostly looking in concord and thinking about starting to look in Pittsburgh.

The problem in concord is I keep getting outbid by investors (despite being conventional and not FHA) in the Holbrook Heights, Dana Estates and similar "safeish" areas.

I am curious about south of the Bart in Pittsburg as it seems to have less crime then north of the Bart, and any other areas of concord or pittsburg that are safe. I Bart into my job in Berkeley so I need to stay close to Bart (although I do own a car I dislike commuting on the freeways).

If anyone can give me some opinions about a safe place to live in those areas I would greatly appreciate it. Living in Lafayette most of my life it's hard to get perspective.

I've lived in the Oak Hills neighborhood south of the Pittsburg BART station for almost 3 years now, and I've loved it. It's a great neighborhood to be able to walk pets, and I take my kids to the parks whenever I can. My street has been pretty much crime-free, unless you leave expensive stuff in plain view, which has happened about twice in the last 10 years, according to my neighbor who's been here since the area was built up in the late 90s.

Anyway, if you do decide to move out here, welcome!
