All of you So-Cal people crack me up. You act as if there is no California north of Sacramento, or even Bakersfield in some cases. Listen if you want to live in the best part of the state - Free from crime, pollution, traffic, and all of the L.A. garbage - you should check out Northern California. (And by that I am not talking about the Bay Area!) Redding, Red Bluff or anywhere on the coast, if you prefer that climate, near Eureka, or anywhere in between!

OK, is the bear warning some kind of scare tactic?

By the way, I've lived in Sacramento before back in the early 90s but am now back in my original home near Long Beach in So Cal. I've always wondered what Redding, Chico, Oroville, Paradise, et al., were like when I lived up north, but never ventured up that way. I had read an article in the Sacramento Bee stating that the area north of Sacramento was expected to become the next boom area of the state. I'm not sure if that has ever happened.

Hey as long as the bears don't speak Spanish, live on the dole, or give birth to a 'U.S." citizen one second after crossing the border just to stay in the country. . . I think we could work something out.

Many of those areas are still trying to recover from a reputation of being a haven for hate groups/white supremacists.

The north of the state is country, Chico is a progresssive town, because of the University.

I lived in small town in the north, a black family made an offer on a house, the neighbors all chipped in and made a better offer.

The north state was the last place I saw bill boards saying, "Get the US out of the UN"

One of the great things about the state is the amount of great places in lots of areas. SLO has its charms, as does Santa Monica and Grass Valley and Berkeley and Del Mar and Healdsburg and ... Yes, the better areas tend to be more expensive (and very little is inexpensive these days), but there's a reason, beyond the stereotypical immigration rant, that one-ninth of the U.S. lives in California.

From checking the information on this website (city-data.com) regarding the cities in the far northern region of the state, it's interesting to note that there are very few minorities living up there (not even very many Latinos/Hispanics, unlike the rest of the state south of Sacramento). I wonder if being a haven for hate groups could be the reason why?

Old stats,,, the hispanic population is mushrooming everywhere.. Interestingly if you read crime stats from drugs to murder, to child molesting in north Ca and North Nevada tis mostly hispanic names, yet they are still a minority..

Dunno why.
