I found this quotation interesting:

I disagree because I see districts with administrators still giving themselves raises and living with very handsome perks. I'd like to see this deadwood cut and save actual teaching positions.

As for the rest of the budget, we'll know what it's going to look like in a few weeks.
Unions own Jerry. Look for more taxes and maybe he finally throws prop 13 out the window along with a third of CA.

California's obscene government employee numbers and great society programs are socialism in the middle of a Capitalist society and are a cancer eating the state from the insides out.

Last thing you will see is real union, pension and great society program reforms and those are our problems. They are the anchor drowning us all.

We have a spending problem, not a lack of taxes.

Oh come on, just because we already have the highest sales and income taxes doesn't mean we can't do more. You're not a real Californian until you're man enough to pay your fair share.

Saying that Brown is beholden to Unions any more than any politician defies logic.
I actually think Brown will make the cuts, against union wishes, but the fact is that the CTA and local teachers' unions support the Democratic Party 100%. I say this as a union member (not proudly).
Nevertheless, I don't fault the unions for wanting to save "educators'" jobs, and 'no', they don't have much teeth in most districts I know. As I said earlier, there's a whole lot of high-paying administrative jobs with nice perks that go mostly unscathed. And that is the real shame. And that's where a ton of waste is.

Brown will make the cuts, while at the same time, ask the voters to increase tax rates. Both will have to happen in order to close the budget gap. The funny thing is, neither Democrats or Republicans want to pay higher taxes. They both expect someone else to pay for it. Tax money isn't going to magically appear!

It's a good thing that Bill Lockyer is calling for strict fiscal responsibilities by proposing spending cuts yet the legislature is not listening a word he has been saying all along.

the budget gap is less than 1% of the states annual economic output, fixing the problem is not a big deal, except for the politics.

budget gap, 20 billion, States annual economic output? 2 Trillion.

I read the other day where John Boehner who will be the new speaker of the house (Federal, but the concept is the same) said he would not compromise....... oh duh, one cannot have a democracy without compromise, what we see here in CA is an inability to compromise.

I think Brown, precisely because he is a Democrat has a better chance of getting both sides of the aisle to compromise, if he cannot do it, it cannot be done, we go back to what I have been saying for a couple of years, California State Government is unfixable, without taking a chainsaw to the Constitution.

I think that "Reason42" made two mistakes, I could be wrong, but his cryptic terse post seems to state that there should be no tax increases, which goes along with the lack of compromise which has put the state into the state it is in. The other is that he seems to infer I am in favor of higher taxes.

Neither idea of his is accurate.
