Hello everyone

I am looking into a potential job offer that would have me moving to Fresno, my work is located on Shaw ave just west of hwy 41. (Most likely job would last about 1 - 1.5 years then I can transfer back to bay area offices.) Unless it's an amazing place to live?

A little background about me. I'm 24, moved to U.S. when i was 8, and I grew up in Cali more specifically bay area (Sunnyvale then San Jose.) I recently graduated from college, and now considering potential options for work.

So my questions for the people that love or hate Fresno. Is it a fun place to live?

My usual activities would involve going to bars, clubs, restaurants, meeting new people (since i don't have any friends in Fresno, ;-( I also love to play sports; tennis, basketball, football, rock climbing, backpacking, hiking, and much more....

I already know Yosemite is near by and there will be lot of potential for outdoor activities (backpacking, hiking), my question is more specific to the city lifestyle and activities. I hear Clovis is a nice place to live?

- Thanks in advance for help

Rutvij,

Fresno is a good location and has many nice areas. The best locations are north of Shaw and west of Blackstone. The Tower District is kind of quaint. Fresno has many good restaurants and the best are Asian and Mexican. There is a huge number of franchise eateries. There are many opportunities for seasonal outdoor sports and activities. Crime is an issue but if a person has a keen awareness of their surroundings then they should be okay. Fresno is very hot during the summer, but the humidity is low. Winters can be foggy and gray.
If I was to summarize Fresno's overall appearance, I'd say it resembles one huge strip mall.

My advice would be to visit the city then make a decision.

I go to Fresno everyday for work, the people are so friendly overthere. The city is ugly surrounded by ugly, but the nice people make up for that. It still offers great shopping, good food and whatever you would expect from a city of half a million people.

An area of Fresno you may want to check out is the "Tower District". It's an older part of town and has a lot of restaurants/cafes (try Livingstones!), some galleries etc. and seems to have a demographic that fits your age. The heart of the area is anchored by a very nice restored theater called the "Tower Theater" located at Olive and Wishon - if your boss is from Fresno they should be familiar with the area.
