By Democrat I assume you mean, "one o' them liberals" It is true that Democrats ie liberals are responsible for everything bad in this state, and for everything good, try as I may, I cannot think of one darned thing conservatives ever did for California, or America. They are nothing but cobbles on the road of history.

Think about it, everything in America that has made America America has been opposed by Conservatives, including America itself.

Fearful little buggers.

I wonder if they'll be the ones paying for or receiving the entitlements in another 40 years.

We should return to feudalistic system where only the wealthy land owners can vote and the peasants can not.

Or how about everyone gets one vote - nice and fair - but everyone pays the same dollar amount in taxes:

(Revenue Required by Government)/(Total Number of People) = Each person's tax

Movie theaters, barbers, car dealers, grocery stores, and gas stations don't charge less because a person's income or net worth is low, why should the government charge less for the services it provides?

Or, if someone doesn't think that's fair (whatever "fair" means) how about no income taxes at all and have a flat sales tax?

I find it interesting that Republicans claim to supporters of business, both large and small, and constantly use the mantra that business owners are the ones who create jobs, so they must be given free reign and limited red tape and taxes in order to flourish. Then they propose something like the Fair Tax which would cripple sales in our economy. We've seen 1% sales taxes increases have a negative effect on sales. Imagine how frugally people would be with their money if there was a 25% tax on everything from cars, to homes, to movie theater and sports games tickets, to new video games for their children, etc. Retail businesses have strongly opposed this ridiculous idea as it would bring our economy to a grinding halt.

As for one flat tax for everyone, it would be a redistribution of wealth in the opposite direction. It would simultaneously and drastically raise the taxes the middle and lower incomes pay while lowering that of the wealthy, which is why I suppose you like the idea.

The analysis wouldn't be complete unless it was coupled with the effects the elimination of income taxes would provide.

I don't really know what the effects would be on the low, middle and high income people. I suppose if you think the main purpose of taxes is to redistribute wealth then a pure sales tax doesn't sound like a good idea. If the main purpose of wealth is to fund the government, then maybe it's a great idea. I'm too dumb to know if I'd like the idea.
