Arrow What's so great about CA?

I'm not trying to say California is a bad place, don't take the title wrong. I'm planning on moving to CA in about a year....

I was just wondering, if almost 40 million people live there, what does everyone like about it?

The things I'm liking are great weather, the ocean, and green/trees/hills...

Am I right? Is that what 40 million other people are in CA for or am I missing something big? Are people there for jobs? Are people there to try to become movie stars or something? I just want to know if I'm moving there for the same reasons everyone else is already there for...

For me..I was born here and have lived all over CA...Northern CA, Southern CA, and Central CA. My favorite is Northern. I want to move out of California though just because I want to live somewhere like Oregon eventually once I save up enough to buy a home cash so that I just need to work to pay for the basics in life.

I read the Phx, AZ forum and it seems everyone loves it there. I'm from AZ and I can't stand it there anymore. I don't really see what everyone likes about Phx and hate about CA...

Phx is WAY TOO HOT, kinda boring, desert.

The only thing I can see likable about Phx is the price of homes maybe. But you get what you pay for in Cali. Yeah you pay about 3 times the price than Phx, but in Phx you gotta deal with the crappy weather...The crappy weather that everyone seems to like... I dunno, maybe it's just because I've been in AZ my whole life. Hopefully I don't hate CA. I like it so far, but never really lived there. Cept in bootcamp for about 3 months.

Hey Jay,
Green Hills??? Dude we try to burn this state down every year, it does'nt rain from May to october so by late July we are always in an extreme fire watch. So Nope, there just isn't alot of green here, it's more like yellow...
Now the weather can't be beat, that's for sure...
oh we do have the prettiest girls lots of blondes
But hey, with 40 Million people it's pretty darn crowded.....

How can everybody love Phoenix?! No offence, I have good friends there and they say it's just terrible with all that stove-hot air all around you, you cannot go outside for a walk no matter what hour. And of course electricity bills are high 'cause you cannot live without AC. So, what's so great there?

I love Cali, it's just too beautiful for some people, that's why maybe some of them are moving out of it, they can't stand all the beauties in Cali.

Fatty Jay and LoveCali, I was born and raised in Phoenix, and I'm still living in the "Valley of the Sun", and I'll probably die there. Hot (and low humidity) summers don't bother me too much, and if you can't understand why people like the desert areas, well that's your own opinion, and to each his own. Many of us like the serenity of the desert (not in the city of course) and it has a beauty of its own. There are beautiful desert areas in California as well, Palm Springs, maybe Bakersfield, Edwards AFB, and many people prefer them. Besides, without the 115 degrees in July, Phoenix would have been too crowded. Although, we've seen tremendous growth in the past 10 years, I can't imagine what it would have been like if we had California-like weather.

I've never lived in California, but I've visited many cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego, and to be honest, Los Angeles and Orange County aren't a good place to move to anymore because they're too crowded.

Also, and I'm sure you've heard the phrase "California Drivers". Whenever I drive on the freeways in the Los Angeles area, I feel like I'm in a NASCAR or an Indy race! Many times I'd be going about 70 MPH (in a 55 MPH zone) in the right lanes, and people get behind me almost on my rear bumper because they want to pass me and I can't let them go by because of traffic all arround me! Apparently, if you want to drive at 70 MPH, it's better to get off the freeway and drive on surface streets!

If you live near the coast, the weather is wonderful. This entire summer the weather has mainly stayed in the mid 70's during the day - creeping up to 80 once in a while - cool sea breeze exists almost all the time, skies are blue. Yes there are way too many people here, but if you love being outside, then So. California is a great place. We bike on the beach several times a week (we go early where there are few people there), entertain outdoors every week, take long walks, garden - it is rarely too hot to be outside. Many people live here just for the weather.
