Welcome to Hidden Valley Lake, California

Housing is less expensive, you might need to commute to work? Not sure what job opportunities there are. They are always building homes in the area though...

Post Love living in Exeter, CA

Hi fellow Canadians doctorljcc: My husband and I moved to Exeter from Vancouver July 2001. I am dual American and Canadian citizen and my husband is Canadian in the last stages of getting his American citizenship. I sponsored him for his "green card."

Goodbyehollywood has a good question about you and your wife's legal status to move to the States, especially after 9/11.

Exeter is as described in his/her description. Just a nice small town. The Chamber of Commerce sells licence plate frames that say, "Exeter, Small Town Charm." I think that sums it up nicely.

well...toxic...hummmm...i believe we californians are more ecologically conscious than most of the u.s., however i would stay away from l.a., long beach, area's. which is vast as i include in it most of orange county and most of riverside county....we have polluted the earth so no place is clean...not even canada....it is so very sad....some one mentioned napa and sanoma area's....which are lovely and minutes from many small towns with ecologically minded people. placer and eldorado counties have been growning at a 6-7% growth rate since 1975. and housing in towns like cool, garden valley, greenwood, applegate, weimar, colfax, pilot hill, foresthill, are still somewhat rural and priced in your range. the commute would be about 45 minutes to hour to work. but the drive would be beautiful for most of the drive. so far the housing market hasn't fallen as badly as most of the country...not yet anyway. i don't expect this area to stop growing for another 15-20 years...as we still have room to do the thing humans seem to do best....sprawl. if i had to live in a small town and i was a handyman...i'd consider picking up something that was a fixer-upper...in say loomis, ophir, newcasle, shingle springs, eldorado, folsom...and then move up from there...it really depends on how much you will get from your home in relation to what you owe...how large a down payment you have.....if you are looking to own outright or have a morgage....anybody reading this thread...i would like to move from this are as it has gotten too crowded for me...and i'm retired now...i will be checking out exeter...as i read on one of the posts....sounds more like what it used to be like here...i hope that helps some...i could give you some credentials as to why my information is accurate...but i will say...i retired from one of the worlds largest package delivery companies...as a route driver....so i know these areas intimately...and because of the type of business...it is the pulse of what ever the economy is in any given area. i hope this helps you in your search....warm regards 1966sonolite
