Hated by right wingers who see it as too "Liberal" that's why you see so much hate on City Data. "Lib" translates to Illegals, high cost of living and San Francisco politics. In reality most people off the internet do not hate California . City Data is full of nut jobs, see the politics forum to confirm my reasoning.

No, california, or rather it's people, are pretty much dispised throughout the us. My mother came back from the northwest and was amazed at the harsh feelings in washington and oregon against the californians. I have cousins in arizona, same there. I've heard of complaints in colorado, texas, and pretty much all of the south, not to mention much of the west outside of the coast. Nope, californians aren't well liked. Sorry. I'm sure you people mean well enough but........

I, who worked in Nevada for 40 years, can tell you, it isn't so much Californians, as it is Californians who move into your state. The worst "haters" are generally former Californians trying to act like they are locals in their new state.

The reason why Californians are sometimes disliked has little to do with traits, and much to do with numbers.

That and the Californians who try to drag California along with them.

These things are mostly in the West, most easterners who dislike Californians, dislike them until they get enough money to move to California

Exactly, can't use this site to accurately judge how people feel about California. We gotta take C-D with a grain of salt.

I lived in Des Moines, Iowa at one time. No one "despised" me there. I was friendly, nice and had a smile on my face. When asked what I thought of Iowa I'd say it was pretty in its own way, that I like the wide open spaces and that Des Moines was a really great little city. Not once was I met with any sort of hostility. Usually I'd get "You're from California? Why the hell would you move to Iowa?!".

My brother and his family moved to Kentucky in the 90s and I asked if any of them ever had a problem when people would discover where they were from. He said no, everyone treated them great. When he past away last year from cancer his wife was blown away by the outpouring of sympathy from their friends, neighbors and coworkers.

I think all this hatred towards California and Californians is a myth. People are people, Americans are Americans and we're not very much different from anywhere else. Online forumites I think just like to play up the supposed issue for dramatic effect (see above pic insert in post #22 ).
