Default Jobs in the Central Valley

I live basically in Lodi and I'm having a heck of a time finding another job. I drive around town and no one really hires me. There's no jobs in Stockton, I've been to Galt and nothing really there either. What should I do?

Actually there are jobs, depends on what you do though. What are you looking for?

Just about a year ago, I set out on the road,
Seekin' my fame and fortune, lookin' for a pot of gold.
Things got bad, and things got worse, I guess you will know the tune.
Oh ! Lord, stuck in Lodi again.
Rode in on the Greyhound, I'll be walkin' out if I go.
I was just passin' through, must be seven months or more.
Ran out of time and money, looks like they took my friends.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.

The man from the magazine said I was on my way.
Somewhere I lost connections, ran out of songs to play.
I came into town, a one night stand, looks like my plans fell through
Oh ! Lord, stuck in Lodi again.

Mmmm...
If I only had a dollar, for ev'ry song I've sung.
And ev'ry time I've had to play while people sat there drunk.
You know, I'd catch the next train back to where I live.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.

Also look into social services, at all levels. May not be your "cuppa", but due to the low cost of living in the the Valley, and a population that depends on all sorts of "public assistance", there's a fair demand for everything from nursing and social workers, to simple in-home care and assistance for the disabled. And if you're a "newcomer", it quickly helps get you "plugged-into" the community.

The San Joaquin Valley has always been a tough place to find a job. Fresno is only slightly better than Stockton. Many people living in Stockton commute to Sacramento or work for a company along the I-680 corridor. Sacramento has historically had a stable job market, but this recession has been disproportionately bad by Sacramento standards. So it will be difficult to find a job in Sacramento.

And really, it is tough in the Bay Area too. You have to analyze what appears to be a low unemployment rate in some Bay Area counties. Those areas may have a lot of upper management positions, and managers typically don't lay themselves off.

Stockton has one of the highest unemployment rates in California. The important question is, what kind of job are you looking for?

I can guarantee that if your post is indicative of how you present yourself to prospective employers then you will not find many opportunities in this area. San Joaquin County's official unemployment is currently 18%.
In reality it is probably closer to 25%.

Just driving around will not land you a job. You are in competition with a lot of highly skilled and highly educated people who are looking for work and will slit your throat to get it.

My suggestion is to join the military as one poster suggested. It might be your best option.

Good point re: the level of competition and the need for more "resourcefulness". But "joining the military" just to have a "job" sounds pretty extreme. If things are that dire and it's just employment you're seeking, there are other many parts of the country with better job markets and it would certainly be lot less "challenging" way of "relocating" than enlisting.
