Good point, I have also thought of that too, moving from one subopitmal situation to another, UGH...those summers in Bakersfield do not sound like fun. And yes, I realize that in a lot of mainly low income areas in CA Spanish is the primary language, kinda suck, but it is reality.

I am just really trying to weight the pros and cons of staying in California Overall. I used to live in Seattle, it used to be quite a bit cheaper than San Diego, that is no longer the story....plus it RAINS 180-200 day a year.....I fricken HATE rain.

I moved from Bakersfield in January . I will never return there =) Not a HORRIBLE place to live if you like cold winters , very hot summers, unhealthy air quality and rude people - and yeah stay away from the eastside . Aside from the illegals , there are alot of drug addicts, mostly white and hispanic. If you do happen to move to Bakersfield , stay on the west and northwest side of town - Rosedale is nice.

If you move to the San Joaquin Valley for cheaper real estate prices there are nicer towns and cities to achieve that - Visalia, Fresno, Merced, Modesto. Bakersfield has the worst air quality and hottest summer temps over any of them.

Default Other reasons bakersfield is horrible?????????

If you were thinking of moving anywhere why would you ask such a question? your asking for 100% negitive feedback instead of whats positive.
Living so close you would think you could drive there and get a first hand look.

It sounds to me like you like where you live, why move to a place you seem to dislike?

In terms of temperature and air quality, there isn't much difference between the cities you listed since they are all located in the Central Valley due to the topography.

Hey there,I used to live up in Washington, but I love it much more down here in California....I'm so glad I didn't rely on people's negative opinion of Bakersfield, because I actually think it's a great place to live and it's not as horrible as what others made it out to be.

Bakersfield can get chilly during the winter, but not as bad as Spokane.

I was VERY MUCH considering moving there............the main deal breaker was the very hot summers........went through that for 18 months in Tucson.

I would love to move back to the Fallbrook area.........don't know if I could ever afford it.

Bakersfield may not be one of the most desirable places to live due to the hot summers and the city not being progressive as the rest of California, but the main reason I love it here is because of the people. The city isn't just inhabited by Bakersfield natives. I have befriended Bakersfield natives and people who have relocated from all over California and other parts of the country.

I keep myself busy by working, then hanging out with groups of friends. And we often take trips to other parts of California and make it back home the same day.

It's not so bad living here in Bakersfield and one can avoid choosing to be miserable by staying busy.
