In Fresno, the high temp will be over 90 degrees for about 3 months but it's dry heat. In Texas you have the humidity to deal with which will just drain your energy.

Our air quality is not as good as some may think. I live 50 miles from Gary, and 70 from Chicago. That smog comes our way. There is a haze in the air. Also keep in mind we are no emission friendly and do not have smog checks so we have lots of cars n big trucks with altered exhausts blowing soot and black smoke.....and its legal.

You are right, the temps will be similar, but it feels totally different. The other big thing is that it cools down at night in the central valley, and you will get some stretches in the upper 80s low 90s. Here from late May till late Sept its just hot....

Its about 35 days per year over 100 degrees with much lower humidity than the midwest or south. Then about 35 days a year with dense fog, but no snow or ice.

Compared to the 3 to 6 months of winter in other parts of the country, yes it is better weather and easier to deal with.

You're correct.

I've always wondered about coastal Californians who complain that the Central Valley is hot then move to places that are even hotter like Vegas or Phoenix or move to places with high humidity like Texas. Always has seemed like poor reasoning to me.

Fresno averages about 35 days per year over 100 degrees,
Vegas is about 72 days per year over 100 degrees,
Phoenix is about 92 days per year over 100 degrees.

Default considering a move to Fresno from Philly...but a Southern girl at heart

I've been trying to find a job anywhere out west. Going through a divorce...and I've seen a wide variety as to whether Fresno is a safe place or not...I see where everyone at least seems to be in agreement that Northern Fresno is the way to go for safety. I'm going to be a single female moving by myself & want to make sure that it's definitely worth my while! My first concern is safety, of course & then cost of living. In Philly...very expensive...everything...everywhere. I'm from South Louisiana and would love to get further towards that direction...as far as pollution...it's obviously everywhere! So, so much for that! But I've heard taxes are ridiculous in CA...does that only apply to someone who is a property owner because I will be renting? Or are there other pricey things I'm not taking into consideration?

Thanks for any advice you can give. I'm so confused on which is the better place to go out there!
