My relatives live in Beaumont. I somewhere have a beautiful picture of the blue sky there. Its about 6k feet high, so it is above the smog, but if you have to go elsewhere you still have to drive into it. They even get snow. I don't know if its within financial limitation of the OP.

My fil has COPD so he had to get out of the basin and had done a lot better up there.

I wonder if the OP ever did find his dream home. I like stories that have an ending, and all too often the thread starters just disappear.

6K elevation, does not go well with people with either lung or heart problems.

Beaumont, CA barely makes 2600'. You must be thinking of some place in the mountains.

I guess its closer to three k but given the change quite an adjustment. Hopefully the smog cloud will stay below. He does there better than in Orange. It was stay with the smog or go to altitude or out of state. Our of state wasn't desired so they went with option 2. Sometimes you pick the least bad option. But their are quality is good and he's doing somewhat better there.

He's getting up there, into his 80's, so the driving may at some point be a problem.

My mistake. But it is above the smog belt and if family is in LA or Orange its quite a drive. When its awful below they can see the brown/grey layer sitting there down the hill. If I lived there I'd never leave the area if it led into the muck. Myself, it it had been feasable would have loved to moved up to near lassen but alas... Given the current cash crop there, maybe that was good.

It was quite a bit of altitude at first for them, but he adjusted.

Here is a site, you can compare different areas of the country.

It is comparing Sacramento Ca, against Beaumont Ca in the chart. put in a different name, and it will compare that city, and the national average. Note that Beaumont is worse than Sacramento in pure air pollution, and far above for lead in the air.

Beaumont is low on air pollution in the winter, but builds up during the summer as the air heats up.
