Tehachapi is a great little mountain town. People are friendly, the weather is great. It's a short commute to Bakersfield. My husband commutes to Edwards, it's about a 40 minute drive.
Getting around in the winter isn't bad. If the snow is heavy enough highway 58 does close. The temperatures are mild really. Not extremely hot, nor extremely cold. The only downside would be that it does get pretty windy!
We have really enjoyed the small town atmosphere here. We moved here from a small town in the Antelope Valley. That is where people were unfriendly and crime was high. We are so glad we moved up here, our only regret is not moving sooner!

california5, I agree with you. I grew up in Tehachapi and my parents, grandma, uncle, and much of my extended family still live there. I still consider it my home, and always will. The "Tehachapi" that
KNJO describes must exist in a parallel universe, because I have definitely never been to that place. I lived there until I moved to Northern California to go to college when I was twenty. I moved back home to work for Enron Wind (now GE Wind Energy) when I was 29, and lived there until I transferred to Pensacola, FL about 5-years later, which was about 4-1/2 years ago. So, I am no stranger to my hometown, Tehachapi, and as I said in my post above, I would be very interested to see where
KNJO lived previously, and I would also be interested to see how long this person lived in Tehachapi.
Whatever the answers to those questions might be, I maintain that this person is a Negative Nancy, and think they likely complain about anything set in front of them.
