My husband is a marine officer and will be attending NPS in the summer. I dont know the area and I need to find a place to live that has really good schools. I have been told the military housing is in La Mesa Village and Fort Ord. Does anyone know if these communities are nice or would out in town be better. Please help!!!!!

Hi sbjadro,

First of all welcome to Monterey!

Yes, I know of these areas pretty well. And fortunately for you these questions get asked pretty regularly here. I recommend La Mesa over Ft. Ord big time. La Mesa is in Monterey in a better school district. Ft. Ord is in Seaside and your kids will go to school there if you live there. Take a look at the map Charles provided above.

Next see this thread asking essentially the same quesitons: http://www.city-data.com/forum/calif...nterey-ca.html.

Some military families opt for private schools also. Monterey, Carmel and Pacific Grove has the best public schools in the area. What type of school are you looking for, elementary or? Our next door neighbors are attending NPS and living in civilian housing. That is another option you might consider. But we have friends in La Mesa and they really like it there.

Derek
