Liberal claptrap . What we do is mock and demean those that highlight the reality that we can't help everyone ... You are in a situation in which you have a certain amount of revenue .. If you try to tax more to get revenue, revenue might actually decline and you might kill the private sector that produces the milk from the teet that people suck ... So you have K dollars...
YOU HAVE K dollars and you must decide what do w/ it. You have fixed resources and you must decide what to do w/ it...

What is going to be the end of us is this illogical neo-liberal clap trap that keeps acting like we have k + m dollars where m is imaginary money and we can just keep handing out whatever we like.. We are doing that very thing to appease the illogical neo-liberals... and surprise, it causes inflation.. high food prices.. high oil prices... its causes food riots in egypt, syria, libya.. it causes wars elsewhere.. but as long as the silly uneducated liberal can feel like they are doing the world a great service by giving out money they don't have (being financed by quantitative easing) : Quantitative easing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
they are quite fine ignoring the all to painful realities.

So, stupidity is going to be the end of us... The compassionate dumb ... and the moronic neo-conservatives.. Both of you are quite often uneducated and uninformed and illogical.. Two sides of the same coin ... and that's what's destroying our currency ... destroying the world's faith in our debt .. S&P just downgraded the U.S's debt to be on 'negative watch'...

So while you are crying a river for all the poor lost souls in the world... Others are seeing fixed resources and making hard decisions about what best to do w/ them. When considering how to increase resources.. weighing what the realistic consequences of such actions will be .. while the neo-liberals cry at the reality that they can't feed everyone.. Demean anyone who says to them, it's not possible .. and while the intelligent have to contend w/ idiotic conservatives yelling about someone's citizenship..

You're all loonies and are too arrogant to shut your mouths for 2 seconds spewing your senseless and baseless opinions to be able to see the reality that stares you in the face. That goes for both camps of clowns : Neo-liberals .. and neo-conservative .. stupid is stupid and comes in all shapes and sizes.

haha, yeah I'm wondering that too especially given the topic of this thread. Some of the more close minded, far left nuts on here think any discussion of topics that don't suit their political leanings is some "right wing" assault on this forum. They're the ones that give the left a bad name and probably only like to discuss political topics with people that agree with them, it's like an idealogical circle jerk. I enjoy reading both sides of the argument, some obviously prefer just their side. I think there is a pretty even mix of topics on this forum.

Unfortunately some have the gross incorrect opinion that we shouldnt help ANYONE. That any help to anyone is BAD. And its not.

What goes around comes around folks, you never know when your day of need will come.

Between 2001 and 2009, California's corporations saw their profits soar nearly 200% but their state tax liability only grew by 68%.

Government spending is a much bigger problem than lack of revenue, oh and don't forget %47 of tax filers don't pay any income tax!

What goes around comes around folks, you never know when your day of need will come.

So after reading the report I fail to understand the issues for outrage here.

How many states have higher income tax rates than California? The answer is that only Hawaii and Oregon, who beat us out by less than 1%. But Oregon has no sales tax at all, while Hawaii has a sales tax rate of only 4%.

So, what is the conclusion of the report? Folks who make less spend more of their income? Since basic items such as food are exempt from sales tax, I can only conclude that the report assumes embedded taxes from real estate as part of rent and excise taxes as part of core prices for purchased goods.

If these are the assumptions, then the only way to "penalize the wealthy" is to increase their property taxes and "sales tax" them for purchases not made. Since real estate prices have so significantly declined, the wealthy who own homes are likely paying less property tax, but then again have lost equity in their homes.

11.1% x 12600=1398.60
2.3 million x 7%=161,000.00

When you factor in how much taxes the poor get back and the amount of welfare and aid they recieve, you are talking about a class of people who are making a near zero sum contribution at best.

The study measures a number of items INCLUDING sales tax, which is a regressive tax.

On state income tax alone, poor people pay less or even nothing.

But poor people save very little or nothing. They spend everything they take in. So a higher percentage of their income is taxed at the sales tax rate. And as such, in studies like this, the poor indeed do pay a higher percentage of their income as taxes.

It is immoral to confiscate personal property by force (taxation) to give it to someone else. It is not fair that nearly half of all working Americans pay no Federal Income Tax whatsoever. It is not fair that 2% of the working population pay about 50% of personal federal income taxes.

It is patently hypocritical to confiscate wealth (taxation) and give it to someone else, all the while patting yourself on the back for being "compassionate" with other people's hard earned money.

I'm still waiting for someone else's "wealth" to be "given" to me...still waiting.

If you use a freeway, went to a public school, walked on a sidewalk, there is a strong change it was partly paid for by someone wealthy. The top 1/3 of Californians are paying for pretty much everything. You think the people of the Tenderlion are keeping muni running or something?
