If you're looking for rural property within about an hour of Burbank, you have some other possibilities. There are quite a few communities to the west of Palmdale that are still fairly reasonable. Look into places like Green Valley, Lake Hughes, and Lake Elizabeth. With the real estate downturn that is now taking place, I think you might be able to find something in your price range. These are all small communities, but don't have the "big city" problems that Palmdale and Lancaster have.
Even further west of there are Neenach, Gorman, Lebec, and Frazier Park. Again, these are small, rural communities without the big city problems, for the most part. The commute from most of these places to Burbank would be somewhere around 1 to 1 1/2 hours, depending on when you make the drive. During the worst times with accidents, it can take longer, but that's not every day. I drive daily from the Frazier Park area to Sun Valley (just north of Burbank), and my commute is usually just over an hour each way.

Opposite question for me:
How would the commute be from Burbank to Palmdale/Lancaster?
Is there carpool from on the 14 N/S ?
Thanks for your answers.

It's 60 miles from Burbank so I am assuming it is a 2hr commute. Anyone do the commute form there? It is worth it? My friend who lived in CA called Palmdale "Methville USA". Any other options?

Bumping the OP to mention Metrolink as a commute option if Palmdale is still in contention for you.

If you have the option to live anywhere but the Antelope Valley, TAKE IT! The air is so bad here just lately with high winds and dust, I am afraid for my own health. A double lung transplant is probably in my future. Let's not even touch on the poor quality of the Intermediate and High Schools ...they are truly terrible. I am only here in the armpit of LA County for my job, plain and simple. Every day,I ask myself "when can I leave? when can I get the f*** out?" It's not possible for me to just up and quit because I have a family to support but, boy, do I ever wish I could. I have never EVER met such rude, nasty people as those that seem to populate this area. I have never experienced such bad drivers with poor road skills - every time I leave the house I have a near miss which is ridiculous. My biggest problem is with the ghettoids that have moved here en masse. The post that described Section 8 welfare living in the tract homes is right on the mark. You can expect your property to be compromised while you are away. My neighbors just moved to Valencia (much MUCH nicer) because they were afraid of a lawsuit. A family just moved here from LA, on Section 8, and make it their business to use everyone's swimming pools during the day while the homeowner is away at work. My neighbor got sick of getting into it with this family after a long commute home from the valley. All he asked for was that they stay off his property while he's gone to which he was told "F***you, we do what we wants." I hope that sums it up for you. With the present wave of foreclosures and empty houses, I am sure that the City of Palmdale will once again fill these vacant homes with welfare recipients. I have posted several times and in more depth about the problems that plague this area. Bear in mind that if you do move to the AV, you face a minimum 50 mile drive to get anywhere interesting. Unless miles and miles of vacant desert and tumbleweeds are your thing.

I live in Lancaster and I commute to Los Angeles. But I work 7 days on, 7 days off. If not for that, I would have to reconsider the commute. It takes me 1-1/2 hours with normal traffic, 2-2-1/2 hours in congestion. It tires me out but it was my choice, so I roll with the punches. The only problem I have are the rude Lancaster drivers who drive slow so you try and pass them and they speed up, preventing you from actually driving the posted speed limit. But then again, those are the laughing stock of the country these days. I too love the desert but wish I could live elsewhere after experiencing the touch Angelenos have imposed on Lancaster residents. What once was a friendly small city is now a rude cesspool of illegal immigration and section 8'ers of which there seems no end in sight. But that seems to be the California direction in the last few years so you'll have to get used to locking the car and such.

What kind of question is that/
Why would I want to move? As I said, it was my decision. Why would you ask that question? This is not a chat room or email, it's a forum with which to post replies to someone's questions. Why then would my answer to their question be questioned by someone who doesn't know me? If you must know why I don't move here is an answer for you; I love living in the desert so as soon as I met a woman who lives there I jumped at the oportunity to move back to what I thought was a relatively small desert community so I could get away from the typical Los Angeles idiots I had been accustom to for the last 25 years. I grew up in a desert community where the people were grounded in moral ethics, and integrity still meant something. So I assumed these people still existed as alot of Californians are the laughing stock of the country due to our passing of ridiculous laws and lack of moral judgement in which we try and impose on the rest of the nation. And Los Angeles is chock full of baffoons who think they're right and the rest of the world is wrong. People are people, I agree but there are more robotic individuals devoid of any social responsibilities in Los Angeles, than I care to count. Once I made the move to Lancaster I saw that alot of these types of people had been transplanted for whatever reasons. Most likely they moved there for a better quality of life. However in doing so, I can see they have populated what used to be a relatively peaceful community and turned it into just another Los Angeles hub complete with the same types of crime and individuals that people try to avoid at all costs. Even the local police can't seem to set any examples for road rules for these locals to follow. They too seem to have problems with their driving skills, as I have observed. Don't know about much else about them but this is what I have observed. They're Los Angeles county so maybe they transplanted also. Would I ever relocate closer to my job? No. Would I ever try and relocate to a more fundamentally sound town or city? Yes. Would I ever question someone on the internet's opinion? Pshaw if I'd hide behind a key board and post a question in which everybody knows is designed to get a reaction. Go find another place on the internet to try and stir the pot.

To FixNFlip:
I live in the AV and I can't honestly recommend you move to this area if you have small children. (We're moving soon, thank God)
A better area would be Santa Clarita, better schools for the kids and close enough to work. Good luck to you and welcome to California!

This is a PUBLIC message board, the second you submit your reply and you let others read your thoughts you're also open to follow up questions....
I don't see any rules saying we're supposed to address the original question ONLY. At least this is the way I understand it.
