I don't see the U.S hosting it any time soon, until at least the 2030's. But it is a great location.

Look and the article date and OP thread date. Bidding process has been closed since last year.
Good location, yes the US is not expected to even try until 2024 Summer Games / 2026 Winter games

I was born in California, and never went to Squaw Valley, CA which was the 1960 venue until I moved to Nevada. We rode the tram to the 8500' elevation with views of Lake Tahoe and had lunch. What a great experience.

This has train wreck written all over it. I can't imagine bringing Olympic madness to Tahoe. Whatever happened to limiting development around the lake and preserving the water quality of the lake? Does no one care about that anymore? There used to be standards restricting development. On the California side, at least.

I don't see it. Tahoe, while nice for skiers, is rather sucky when stacked up against places like the Alps and other places emulating them. The international crowd like their mid mountain amenities and high speed trains leading into the resorts. I guess Truckee might barely cut it but in general ... no.

A lot of people still care about the water quality - see the "Keep Tahoe Blue"/"Mantenga Tahoe Azul" stickers!!

The people who want the Olympics in the Tahoe/Squaw Valley area just want it because of the tourism. I suspect a lot of people would be against it though for the reasons you just mentioned. Tahoe residents already think the tourists overload the place in the summer.
